28th July 2026

Knights of old case

We’re back with Episode 4 of our From Threat to Resilience series, where we explore the real-world impact of a cyber attack and the lessons businesses can learn from it.

In this episode, Stephen Richardson speaks with Paul Abbott, former part owner of Knights of Old / KNP Logistics Group, a £100 million logistics business employing 900 people. In June 2023, the company suffered a ransomware attack that ultimately led to the closure of a 158-year-old business. Despite following security frameworks, cyber insurance, third-party IT support and significant annual security investment, the attack still happened.

Watch the full episode below to hear Paul’s story and learn what organisations can do to strengthen their cyber resilience.

In this episode:

  • How the ransomware attack unfolded and the immediate impact on business operations
  • Why compliance, certifications and cyber insurance don’t guarantee protection
  • The importance of understanding security gaps, even when existing frameworks are in place
  • Why tested backups, disaster recovery and business continuity plans are critical to survival
